Secure Your VSware Account with Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Enhance security by adding extra layers of protection to your VSwar account. This guide is intended for any VSware user. (read time 2 minutes)

What is 2FA? 2FA or Two-Factor Authentication  is a commonly used method of keeping your online accounts more secure. Along with your username and password, you enter a 6-digit code (like you may have seen in other apps or platforms) to confirm it’s really you.

VSware now supports 2FA to help protect your account when logging in. There are two ways this extra layer of security can work, depending on what your school has enabled:

  1. A 6-digit code sent by SMS (if your school requires it)

  2. A 6-digit code from an Authenticator App (which you can set up yourself at any time)

Option 1: 2FA via SMS Code

Your school may choose to turn this on for all users. If this is the case, you must use it when logging in.

How it works:

  • After entering your username and password, a 6-digit code is sent to your mobile by text.

  • Enter the code to finish logging in.

  • You’ll be asked for a new code every 30 days, or when logging in on a new device.

Option 2: 2FA via Authenticator App

(You can use this regardless of your school's particular settings)

You can set up extra login security yourself using a free Authenticator App. It creates a time-based 6-digit code that refreshes every 30 seconds. This method works offline and doesn’t use SMS, saving costs for your school.

Popular apps you can use:

  • Google Authenticator

  • Microsoft Authenticator

  • Authy

These are all free and available from the App Store or Google Play.

How to Set Up an Authentication App

  1. Install an Authentication App
Download and install one of the free apps mentioned above on your phone.
(e.g. Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy)

In this example, we’re using Google Authenticator from the Google Play Store.

  2. Start Setup in VSware

    • Log in to VSware as usual

    • Tap the three lines in the corner and go to:
      More > Settings > Two-Factor Authentication > Start 2FA Setup

  3. Copy Your Setup Code

    • You’ll see a long code (letters and numbers).

    • Copy this code, you’ll need it for the Authenticator App.

  4. Add the Code to Your App

    • Open your Authenticator App

    • Choose Add Account or Set up Key
(In Google Authenticator, tap the + in the bottom right)

    • Paste the code from VSware and confirm

  5. Finish Setup in VSware

    • The app will now display a 6-digit code that changes every 30 seconds

    • Go back to VSware and enter that code to complete the setup

Logging in from Now On

Whenever you log in to VSware (on mobile or web), you’ll:

  1. Enter your username and password

  2. Then enter the 6-digit code from your Authenticator App
