In March 2022, we made a small change to how exams were set up by admin users. This resulted in the need for a new report variable for teacher comments. This article explains what that change is and which variables you need to use, as well as how to use the old variables to print out historic reports.
Changes made to reports
It used to be the case that 'freeform comment' AND 'comment bank' could be selected when setting up an exam, which meant you had to use to use two variables in your term report template: ${Result.TeacherRemark} and ${Result.TeacherCommentBank}. You could also select either one separately in the exam set up and then use the relevant variable in your template.
Since 25/3/2022, when setting up exams you can now select 'freeform comment' OR 'comment bank'. You can also select them separately, but the option for 'freeform comment' AND 'comment bank' no longer exists. In practice, this means that teachers can choose to put in a freeform comment or a comment bank comment but they cannot put in both. They must choose one or the other.
${Result.TeacherComment} is the new variable that should be used in your template regardless of what option you choose in the exam setup stage. It will pull from EITHER the comment bank OR the freeform so covers everything.
Below is an example of what this template might look like:
Printing historic reports
If you want to print a report for an historic exam that was created before 25/3/2022 which was set up using "Freeform comment' AND 'Comment bank", then you will have to temporarily go back to using the old variables. Essentially you have to make a new template just for the purpose of generating a report for an historic exam. Below are a few examples of how you might do this.
-
Template variables required = ${Result.TeacherRemark} AND ${Result.TeacherCommentBank} in two separate columns
- See Template Split for an example template that you can edit for your past Assessments.
When "Freeform Only" has been selected in an Assessment:
-
Template variable required = ${Result.TeacherRemark}
- See Template Remark for an example template that can be edited for Assessments
When "Comment Bank Only" has been selected in an Assessment:
-
Template variable required = ${Result.TeacherCommentBank}
- See Template Comment Bank for an example template that can be edited for Assessments
